That's not a strange place — it's geography that embodies time and memory. Historical layer — events that scarred the world. Cultural layer — rituals, languages, art. Social — hierarchies and unwritten rules. Mythological — legends people tell each other. Magical or technological — the laws of the supernatural. And the metaphysical layer: the fundamental questions of existence in this world.   In «ICONOSTASIS OF SILENCE» («ИКОНОСТАС МОЛЧАНИЯ»), the fundamental question is: what happens when God stops answering? The entire world is built around that silence.   ⚠️ Three deadly sins   The classic mistake is dumping all this information in the first chapters. A world should open gradually, like a city revealing itself to a traveler. Consistency matters — if mirrors were portals yesterday, they can't be just glass today. And everything has a price. No cost means no weight.   💡 The art of layering   In the pentalogy «ADENIUM» («АДЕНИУМ»), mirrors operate on multiple layers: physical objects, portals, metaphors for self-reflection, and a codex of universal law. Each character sees a different layer. Only together do they see the whole.   Depth isn't measured by the number of details. My Biggest Mistakes as a Beginning Writer   I spent weeks searching for the perfect first sentence. Rewrote chapter one dozens of times. Never moved forward.   Looking back, I see how many mistakes I made. Here are the ones that cost me the most time.   🎯 Chasing the perfect opening   The first sentence is just a door. The important thing is to enter the room — not endlessly polish the handle.   In «SHADOW OF THE SLEEPER» («ТЕНЬ СПЯЩЕГО»), I started with an ordinary morning. That ordinariness created the contrast I needed. Sometimes the best way to begin is simply to begin.   📋 Overplanning instead of writing   I created fifty-page outlines. Wrote biographies for minor characters. Drew maps of imaginary places.   It felt like work. But it kept me from the actual work — writing.   The strongest scenes in «ADENIUM: ROOTS OF THE BLACK FLOWER» («АДЕНИУМ: КОРНИ ЧЁРНОГО ЦВЕТКА») came spontaneously, when I let the story lead instead of forcing my plan.   👑 Comparing myself to the greats   Reading Bulgakov or Marquez inspired me — and paralyzed me. How can I write after them? What can I add?   The classics aren't competitors. They're conversation partners. Each author brings their own vision. We speak across time.   ✨ Creating perfect characters   I wanted heroes who were smart, beautiful, morally flawless. They turned into walking virtues. Boring.   Flaws make characters interesting. Weaknesses. Contradictions. Doubts. In «DIALOGUE WITH THE FALLEN» («ДИАЛОГ С ПАДШИМ»), I gave the protagonist real inner conflicts. That made him human.   ✂️ Editing while writing   I couldn't move forward until every sentence shone. First chapters were rewritten endlessly. Later chapters never came.   Hemingway's «dirty draft» method changed everything. Write first. Edit later. That's how I finally finished «THE ORDYNTY: THE MIRROR OF ACHERON» («ОРДЫНЦЫ: ЗЕРКАЛО АХЕРОНА»).   📚 What I know now   Mistakes aren't failures. They're part of the path.   Write regularly. Allow yourself to be bad. Learn from what doesn't work. Never stop searching for your voice.   If I could give advice to my younger self: just write.
